Course Overview

CIPP/US Training Course

IAPP’s CIPP/US training covers U.S. privacy protection regulations. While the United States does not yet have a comprehensive federal privacy legislation, sector-specific laws such as HIPAA, GLBA, COPPA, FERPA, and the CAN-SPAM Act have been enacted. Furthermore, there is a complex regulatory environment where federal and state laws are distinguished, with federal law taking precedence in some cases while state laws operate more stringent regulations in others. In recent years, following the enactment of the California Consumer Privacy Act, privacy laws and consumer protection laws have been established on a state-by-state basis.

Private companies must understand these relevant laws and regulations when collecting and using data to avoid massive penalties and class action lawsuits.

CIPP/US provides comprehensive learning about U.S. privacy regulations, including their origins and development. This is definitely one of the training programs you should consider taking to prepare for the federal privacy law that is expected to be enacted in the near future.

Training by Official Training Partners

If you are considering receiving training from a company that is not IAPP or an IAPP Official Training Partner, caution is required. Trainers not authorized by IAPP often falsely guarantee passing the exam and make false claims about being IAPP certified. In extreme cases, they may even illegally use IAPP logos or official seals.

To be updated

FAQ

  • Q: How are the training programs developed?

A: The training programs are created based on what we call the Body of Knowledge (BoK), exam blueprints, textbooks, and research findings as well as publications from experts, legal professionals, and privacy specialists. They are carefully designed with the involvement of educational design experts and subject matter experts throughout the entire process to help participants deepen their understanding.

  • Q: What format will the training be conducted in?

A: We conduct our 2-day training either via Zoom or in person. We had halted our face-to-face training during the COVID period but have already resumed offering both formats. The online training includes chat sessions, which are conducted in as interactive a format as possible, incorporating two-way exchanges. Additionally, it is possible to implement this training as corporate in-house training, which will be limited to members from the same company only.

  • Q: Does the training include the latest privacy news and trends?

A: IAPP training is regularly updated and designed to reflect the latest trends as much as possible. Moreover, since our trainers are privacy experts, they provide information on the latest trends as needed throughout the training. Even if the latest news is not covered during the training session, you can ask the trainer questions, and they can provide information on current trends.

  • Q: Do I need to take the official IAPP training to pass the CIPP or CIPM exams?

A: You can pass the certification exams without taking the training. The value of taking IAPP training lies in being able to efficiently learn the knowledge framework required for the certification exams. Additionally, the appeal of our IAPP training includes explanations gained from instructors’ practical experience and ongoing support, as well as valuable networking opportunities through participation in the alumni community of students. We confidently recommend our IAPP training for those who want to achieve long-term success in the privacy industry.

  • Q: What are the exam sample questions provided after training completion?

A: Sample questions are not from the actual tests, so they do not necessarily represent the full scope of the exam. However, they are useful for getting familiar with the exam format. They can be used not only for exam preparation but also for reviewing learned content, identifying weaknesses, and testing your knowledge.

  • Q: There are several types of training available. Which training should I take?

A: You should decide based on your current job or position, the job or position you wish to pursue in the future, and your professional need regarding which regions you are most involved with. If you want to systematically learn legal knowledge by jurisdiction, you should take the training related to CIPP certification (CIPP/E, CIPP/US). If you want to learn about privacy governance, you should take training on privacy program management (CIPM). If you want to learn about the relationship between privacy and technology or Privacy by Design, the CIPT training is recommended.
