Instructor Q&A
- More companies are taking Foundation training as corporate training. What have the responses to the training been like?
- I think we’ve received generally positive feedback from participants. Recently, as business becomes increasingly digitized, I believe more people are finding themselves having to deal with privacy compliance in their work. Foundation training targets these individuals, and I think demand will continue to grow.
- Unlike the 2-day training, Foundation training is conducted in a day. How was everyone’s level of understanding?
- Even though the training is held only for a day, the teaching material adds up to nearly 200 pages, so there is some burden on participants. However, we can create a state where they’ve “heard it once before,” so I think we can establish a “foundation.” Personally, I hope participants can take home at least one key concept from the day.
- It is my understanding that the Foundation training covers a wide range of content. Was it challenging to compile examples compared to regular training?
- Foundation training has a case collection corresponding to each module, allowing participants to deepen what they’ve learned through cases. Unfortunately, we can’t cover everything in the lecture, but participants can read the content on our teaching materials as well. I think having specific examples is beneficial.
- What roles/positions would you recommend taking the Foundation training?
- In addition to staff-level personnel in privacy departments, I think it would be good for privacy representatives from various departments who need to handle privacy compliance, such as marketing and HR departments.
- I hear that the number of participants per Foundation training session has been gradually increasing recently. What’s the maximum number of people who can attend at once?
- Since the Foundation training is designed for group training, there is no problem having around 30 people attend at once.
- Some people who have previously taken our CIPM training and CIPP/E training are recommending the implementation of the Foundation training within their companies. What are your honest thoughts on this?
- We’re grateful that we often receive requests from people who have taken our training in the past. Given the training cost, it might be difficult to make a purchase without having experienced our training or consulting services first.
- Please share with us how the Foundation training can be utilized from both organizational and personal perspectives.
- From an organizational standpoint, I’d like companies to use it to spread privacy fundamentals throughout their organization. Since IAPP training represents the global standard for privacy, I think it helps develop a comprehensive and well-balanced perspective. Good privacy management requires “doing obvious things properly without making shortcuts,” and I believe IAPP training teaches us what those “obvious things” are. There are several ways to utilize the Foundation training from a personal perspective. First, it can be used as systematic preparation for obtaining certification. While it is called “Foundation,” this training covers the essential aspects of privacy compliance, making it very useful for grasping the big picture. Another application is using it as a reskilling tool. Privacy compliance is becoming increasingly important in our digitizing society. In fact, privacy specialists are chronically understaffed. I think job opportunities in this field will continue to grow. Beyond certification and reskilling, you can also use it simply to understand what privacy is. This would be for people who hear about privacy frequently at work and think they should know something about it. Many people think privacy means “no touching personal information,” but they’ll discover that is not actually the case.
- Finally, please freely share any comments about the Foundation training.
- The Foundation training is IAPP’s training program for non-specialists. I hope you will utilize it as an educational material for learning global privacy concepts.
